The way it used to be

Kari released a fun HUD for photography that lets you create snapshots on the fly with a vintage feel, by applying colour filters, dusty or scratched overlays and all sorts of frames, from slides, to polaroids and negatives. It’s like bringing the iPhone Instagram into SL !

You can see how the HUD works by watching this video here. I really love the on/off button, so convenient to reframe a shot or move things around in your view. All future updates are included in the price of 500L and then you get 3 old camera replicas too, plus one to wear strapped around your neck.

Here’s how the pictures come straight out of SL, with no fancy shadows, just a bit of Windlight:

Polaroid + lightleak.

Polaroid + scratches.

120mm + lightleak.

Fine and dandy

New at Vive9, Ginta, that I’m wearing here in the Amber tone.

The skinbase comes with a number of lipstick tattoos in really, really bright shades, and I preferred just the natural lips. For adding just a bit of colour, I suggest trying lip stains, such as the ones by Amiee Galicia at Kozmetika. I’m not wearing any lip stains in these photos but I bought a pack and some shades work well for slightly more vivid, but still bare lips. I couldn’t see demos for anything at Kozmetika, which surprised me; it could be that I missed them all though I really looked.

In these two headshots, I have on just the freckled base with the Full Brunette Brow tattoo. Those full bushy eyebrows come only in that one shade, but there’s also some other thin and thick eyebrows tattoo layers in dark, light, brown, blonde and red. Lucky me, dark brown is my colour because I love those eyebrows to bits. They’re strong eyebrows, shape-wise, but they look soft too, texture-wise, which is the perfect combination for me. I don’t like when the eyebrows are too tweezed, or sharply defined, or look so light and faint you can barely see them on the skin; on the other hand, if the individual hairs are so sharp you can discern each one while not zooming particularly close, then the eyebrows stand out too much on the skin, and not in a good way.

If I could wish for one thing, it would perhaps be just for an extra tone midway between Amber and Satin because Amber is a wee bit too tanned for my taste when I’m not on my usual Windlight setting for photos (that really I use only when taking photos, the rest of the time, I’m on default Linden light), and Satin is too light for me in general. But I love this face ! Distinctive, and a natural beauty, but just not airbrushed-perfect. Something about the highlights too, I think, makes this a softer, more realistic face than Sasha previously. And at 850L for the skinbase pack with a lot of options, it should make everyone happy.

I notice I like how Vive9 skins bring more definition to my bone structure. With my face shape, round and wide, some skins will give me an even rounder, plumper appearance. But then some other skin brands such as Vive9 or Très Blah seem to have highlights and shading worked out so they will sculpt my cheekbones and jaw for a delicately chiselled look, without me having to tweak my shape, and that draws me a little more.

Below, I’m wearing 6 of the “Smooth Cat” eyeshadow tattoos from KOSH in addition. I don’t wear make-up tattoos too much but I like these eyeshadows because the colours blend in well. If you like these, you should also check out their “Metallic” eyeshadows for bright, colourful party looks.

From the things we love

Early morning views of Golf of Lune. My two favourite environments on SL are deserts, and in second place, marshes. Perfectly opposite, but both very calming. ❤

Of Lilies

I went blonde again for two of the latest hairstyles released at LeLutka, Addison and Rain. The textures on these are great, with the roots especially. I might have preferred to get my usual brown packs but I don’t think you could see a colour variation as much on there. I might still get the browns for later; I love the airy flow on the sculpt work. And then I also went back to a sweet look with Dutch Touch‘s Mensje.

It’s in the air

Wearing the new Sasha face here, that will be released tomorrow at Vive9 ! Tierra was one of the two tones I liked best, along with Amber. Each make-up option comes with or without teeth and there are lots of variations to create with eyebrows, eyeliners and lipsticks available on tattoo layers. Here I liked most the face without eyebrows, very bare and free of colours.

You might know Azure Electricteeth of the very cute blog Pombon. She is launching next week-end a new brand that she has been working on for a few months, LaViere. There is an entire clothing line to boot, but she’ll also have furniture out for sale. The whole sim is very cute and sort of avant-garde, with some very modern, colourlful and well-baked stores and other outlets. Some teasers here include the skirt above, and the two dresses at the bottom.

Love this cute little bag from Tokidoki with its quaint design, and also the one below from So Many Styles !

Tableau ’11

If you ask any oldbie which has been their favourite version of Tableau, a lot will tell you, like me, that it was the Mexican Tableau, and… that theme is back ! I had been really excited to hear it was to be so the other day because I’m still missing that theme so much, even after all that time. During my first year, Tableau was pretty much my home, and that of a bunch of other (cool, fashionable) wanderers. It is rare luck that the first awesome, creative place I found when I arrived on SL has lived on through the years, continually renewing itself, as I don’t believe that there has ever been another quite like it.

If you came to SL more recently, though, I suppose you may not have seen that theme I mentionned which was in place for the major part of 2007, and unfortunately I deleted the one bunch of nice pictures I had once taken of it without thinking, back in early 2008 when I first gave blogging a go (and gave up after a week).

But anyway, it’s very different now, and I think the old theme was actually more “New Mexico” than actual “Mexico”, like here.

Baby, let’s play house

A little update on some of the new stuff I have been doing lately, at North West. The Gustav lamp I made a week or two ago; the hanging chalkboard changes textures, oh and also, more chairs, in more motifs than is shown here. These are actually just two lamps; if you touch the shade, it toggles between a plain or grunge version of the fabric. I made this set for Themeory Project this week-end; all is included for 75L, except the lamp that is from Kari and the rug from Sea Salt. They really complete the set ! There’s enough room left for you to add your own touch.
